He went thataway

moving Gambetta

Work has restarted on the underground car park, but the only obvious achievement in this area is the temporary repositioning of the statue of Leon Gambetta, who was born in Cahors. Gambetta was a 19th century French republican and prime minister of France. The majority of French cities have a street or square named after him.

The plinth on which the statue rested is being reduced to rubble, so Cahors' favourite son rests on some scaffolding. I'm told that he will be carted away and restored, before being put back on a new plinth (in exactly the same place).
